Go Go Gadget Reload - 17/03/10

By Liz Hooper

“Why go to Reload?” I’m sure some of you are wondering.
“Cause it’s heaps good!” would be my reply. However, that will not fill a 600-800 word article, so I now set out on my task to convince you that Reload is as fantastic as it sounds, and as I am a history student, I shall tell you all about the history of my relationship with Reload.

In my first year:

I didn’t want to go to Reload.
I didn’t go to Reload.
I regretted not going to Reload.

I can’t actually remember the reasons I didn’t want to go. I think that having just started uni I was tired and a bit overwhelmed (especially after hectic-ness of summer holidays!). Maybe I wasn’t keen to spend an entire weekend away with people that I didn’t know.

Maybe you are in that position. Can I urge you to put aside one weekend in your probably busy and tiring schedule to come to Reload. It’s definitely worth it!

In my second year:

This was when I regretted not going in first year. I really loved it!! I realised what a valuable tool it is to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and to encourage each other as we begin a new year together.

The whole weekend was full of fun games (some of which ended in concussion, while others included drawing all over a tennis court or playing battle of the sexes trivia), we learned about the question “Is God green?” (I was TOTALLY convinced that I needed to change my attitude, and was reminded of God’s incredible love for us) and we were put in pairs to do some one to one bible reading and praying (such a good thing to do, it was really encouraging! And I know some people have kept meeting with their pair! I loved meeting up with my partner!).

I feel that Reload sets the scene for the rest of the year. We spend a weekend being challenged by God’s word and getting to know and encourage the people that we will be spending the year with, continuing to be challenged by God’s word and encouraging each other.

In my third year:

I don’t want to speak too confidently about the future (eg: James 4:13-14), however, if it is God’s will, this year will consist of the following good things:
- Ben Pfahlert will be speaking on the topic of Generation Wise, from the book of James. I am pretty excited! What a challenging and relevant topic!! And what a great part of God’s word!! And also Ben is a pretty good speaker!

- Getting to know/encourage old friends.

- Getting to know/encourage new friends.

- Being encouraged by the great group of people that make up ECU.

- Have some great game times, restful relaxing time, some factual and fun faculty time and some delicious dinner and dessert time.

We would LOVE to see all of you at reload and if I haven’t met you yet, I would love to do so!!! I hope that I have been able to convince you all that Reload is heaps good, even if you can’t make it for the whole time, you’re allowed to come up for just one day or night or whatever, just speak to us, we’d love to have you for any amount of time!

I hope we will see you all there this weekend!!

PS: The title of the article is because Reload is really good and useful in many different ways, in a similar way that having multiple gadgets would be ... Also I couldn’t think of a better title.

Liz Hooper is in her third year of Arts, and really loves it.
She also loves to tell bad jokes, here is an example:
What do you call someone else’s cheese?
Nacho cheese (like, “Not Cho” cheese? “Not your” cheese? Get it? Hahahaha … oh dear!)
