The ‘Why’ of MYC?

Mid Year Conference is a MUST for all, particularly if you have never been before! Last year I attended MYC for the first time and as a new Christian I found some aspects of MYC very challenging. With the support of my friends and small group these challenges were stretching but not overwhelming and in the end so rewarding!

The small groups are really fantastic and over the week you develop a close network with these people. This was important because I was someone who had never read through a bible passage or prayed out loud in a small group before. Through the duration of the week I could see myself learning, absorbing and growing so much. By the end of the week my confidence had increased in my small group and this was so rewarding. If the small group experience was all I gained from my time at MYC then that would have been enough however, there is so much more (lucky, because it means that there are SO many reasons to come back again this year!)

I enjoyed other awesome parts of MYC including: the talks, choosing electives that I was interested in and I looked forward to the reflective time each day.

All this learning and growing can get tiring, but don’t worry there are plenty of other awesome things about MYC that don’t require you to think too hard, like: morning swims, playing soccer with people from all the different campuses, ultimate Frisbee, good food and chatting with friends at the prayer tower until all hours of the morning (I recommend saving this until the last night because it becomes difficult to maintain stamina for the whole week!)

Once MYC ended the friendships continued! I went back to uni with a new social network finding friendly faces passing me on the way to class, sitting next to me in class and sitting next to me eating lunch on McKinnon lawn!

My recommendation is: get excited, get ready and get to MYC this year!
