What is FOCUS?

FOCUS stands for Fellowship of Overseas Christian University Students (formerly known as IBM - International Bible Ministries). We are an overseas student group committed to knowing Christ and making him known. We are committed to the faithful teaching of the Bible and its application to our lives. On our campus there are over 60 nationalities represented.

We are the international sub-section of the Evangelical Christian Union (ECU) and linked to both the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES) and the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES).

We are a non-denominational, and consider denomination to be secondary to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. For further details of what we believe click on Doctrinal Basis.

Formerly called "IBM", our group was started at the University of Wollongong in 1996 by Richard Chin who is currently the AFES National Director. Since 1998 FOCUS has been led by Matthew Meek who works with about 12 other senior & trainee staff under the leadership of Richard Chin to serve God's people on campus.

Our aim is to explain the Bible in simple English for non-native speakers so that they may trust Jesus as their King and Saviour, and thus be saved from God's after-death punishment which all people rightly deserve, and live godly lives to God's glory.

Our main Friday night meetings consist of singing, prayer, Bible reading, Bible talk, question & answer time and supper. All our meetings are free and we welcome people from all backgrounds (Christian and non-Christian).

For details of all our regular meetings including those in other languages click on When & Where.

There is also a yearly FOCUS Easter camp coming up. For more information see this page.
